This website is brought to you by the Public Affairs team at CEFCOM Headquarters in Ottawa. We select and edit all the content you see here. But we can’t write it all, which is where you — our deployed soldiers, sailors and Air Force personnel — come in.

Please write for us. Tell us your stories — what you see, what you do, what happens to you. Report your unit’s achievements, especially if they make a positive difference to the people who live in your area of responsibility.

What we want

Articles

We are looking for three kinds of articles:

• News report: third-person, highly topical account that covers the Who, What, Where, When, Why and How of an event or activity.
• News feature: third-person account, less time-sensitive, that tells a story about an event or activity through its effect on certain individuals, and presents several points of view.
• “I was there” feature: first-person account by a participant in an event or activity that explains what happened (who, what, where, when, why, how) and describes its effect on the writer and the other people involved.

Imagery

Every article must come with at least one picture, and for features we would like two or more. Pictures should be highly relevant — including the people you write about, for example — and must come with a full caption.
A full caption includes:

• The names of people who are the subjects of the picture;
• A very brief description of what’s happening in the picture;
• The date the picture was taken;
• The place the picture was taken; and
• The name of the photographer.

Please do not send us pictures that are under copyright to someone else. Choose images from Combat Camera, take them yourself, or use Public Domain images.

Copyright

Articles written by CF members and DND employees during working hours and published by DND/CF organizations are under Crown copyright. This also applies to imagery that accompanies such articles.

OPSEC

Remember that the adversary — whoever that is where you are — is on the Internet too. Ensure that your story does not include any critical information about the operations of your Task Force.

How to reach us

If your Task Force has Public Affairs Officers, they will want to know about your article. You should discuss it with them, and they will review it for OPSEC and forward it to CEFCOM PA.
